Visitors to Warkworth can’t escape the imposing ruins of Warkworth Castle – you can see them from pretty much anywhere in the village. Constructed to protect the inhabitants from marauding Scots and other ne’er-do-wells, the 12th Century ruins have found more recent fame as the location for Hogwarts School in the popular Harry Potter films; if you’re staying in the area it might be a good chance for you to practice your Quidditch skills! While its origins may lie in the middle ages, Warkworth’s most distinctive architecture is Georgian and Victorian, the pretty main street lined with charming shops, restaurants and cafés. There are plenty of attractions nearby to keep all ages amused from the bird watching haven of the Farne Islands to Alnwick Gardens and it’s huge tree house.
