The chances are though you’ll end up in the kitchen, with the cosy Aga, granite topped island and wood burning stove as the perfect backdrop to sit and chat.
The closest village is Melmerby, which has a welcoming pub, a village shop and a tea room. There’s even an indoor pool in the village, so you don’t need to go far for your exercise. Further beyond Melmerby is the beautiful and sinuous Ullswater Lake with its historic steamer boats, glorious walks and of course, swathes of the daffodils that inspired the poet William Wordsworth.
