A unique octagonal brick and flint thatched Victorian cottage nestling in a tranquil village location, The Buttery really fits the bill if you are seeking a quirky, bijou character Norfolk retreat for one or two. Simply perfect for a romantic getaway.
Originally the dairy for the Berry Hall country estate, The Buttery has been sensitively converted and is now a delightfully different, cosy and secluded bolt hole to escape to, whatever the time of year. The main accommodation is on the ground floor. Here you will find a small but perfectly formed country kitchen with everything you will need for your stay, an open-plan dual aspect sitting room with dining area, and an adjoining bathroom. Open ladder-style stairs lead up to a romantic garret bedroom set in the eaves above the sitting room. If you are a bit unsteady on your feet, or don't have a head for heights, you can opt to sleep downstairs by converting the sofa to a double bed if you wish. Outside is a private terrace with a table and chairs - perfect for an evening sundowner drinking in the huge, starry Norfolk skies above. Enjoy lovely rural views beyond Berry Hall to the south and to the north over a Christmas tree plantation in the old kitchen garden bordered by a rare crinkle-crankle wall.
Sitting in the middle of the Berry Hall estate, you are able to explore some of the lovely meadow and woodland walks available right on the doorstep. It is also an ideal base for cycling. Norwich is nine miles away, the historic market town of Wymondham and its fine Abbey, just eight miles, and Barnham Broom golf course only two miles. The beautiful North Norfolk coastline is easily reached with a comfortable forty-five minute drive.
Additional Information: Sorry, no pets. The stairs to the first floor bedroom are very steep, and not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. Although there is an alternative option of a sofa bed on the ground floor, the cottage is strictly for a maximum of two guests. No barbecue provided or to be used please, due to the thatched roof. The cottage is not suitable for infants or children. Hypoallergenic duvet and pillows.
