In the middle of nowhere but not far from anywhere, Hollyhock is a very comfortable and bright eco-friendly cottage, offering the opportunity to enjoy the tranquillity of rural Norfolk.
Hollyhock is all about location. Many people come to Norfolk to take a breather and enjoy the peace and quiet, and there’s nowhere better than Houghton for that. No sound of traffic, dark skies for stargazing, wildlife on your doorstep, empty country lanes for bike rides, miles of local footpaths - sounds blissful. Yet you’re still not far from a handful of good village pubs, several nature reserves and tourist attractions, and the north and west coasts are only fifteen minutes away.
Completely private, but semi-detached from Foxglove (sleeping 2), this charming wooden cottage is spacious and welcoming and has an amazing deck with stunning views for a sundowner. With a bright duel aspect living area, bespoke well equipped kitchen, one double and two single bedrooms all on one level, Hollyhock is a convenient and adaptable cottage for families, couples and friends - and dogs are welcome too (and even horses!).
The location must be seen to be appreciated. With Houghton Hall and deer park as your neighbours you will certainly feel rather special here. Rub shoulders with royalty as you cycle the empty country lanes to Sandringham Estate via Anmer, home to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The convenient market town of Fakenham has the best street market and auction rooms around, or maybe you fancy a day at the races. Head to Bircham Windmill, café, shops and children’s farm, sniff out the Norfolk Lavender fields, or walk the dog along the Peddars Way path - so many choices around here.
Additional Information The owners live adjacent to the cottages but do not overlook them in any way. There are shared, coin-operated laundry facilities (washer and dryer) with the neighbouring property, Foxglove. Two well behaved dogs are welcome (small additional charge). Horses by arrangement. There is bike storage. There is a cot and high chair available on request (please pre-book, no charge). The enthusiastic can walk to The Dukes Head pub 2km away across the fields. The properties make use of a biomass boiler and solar panel to help reduce their carbon footprint.
